Term 1, Week 8 - 2024
Principal Update
Werte Bradshaw Community
A massive shout out to our year 3 and year 5 students for their tremendous efforts over the last couple of weeks with NAPLAN. What has impressed me the most is how focussed and positive all students were about completing these assessments. All we ever expect from our students is their absolute best efforts and that is what they have given us. We SHINE by doing our best even when it is hard. Also, a big thanks to Ms. Fahey for coordinating NAPLAN this year. It is a big job and Ms. Fahey made it look easy.
Today is Harmony Day and we had a brilliant assembly where we got to hear from a lot of students from or with connections to many different countries and cultures. Each and every culture brings something special to Bradshaw Primary School that helps create such a rich and enjoyable environment. It is always a pleasure to go out into the yard and see students of so many different backgrounds getting along, playing games, singing and dancing. It shows the very special place Bradshaw Primary School is.
Bradshaw Primary School is proud to release the 2024 School Priority Areas. Through consultation with Bradshaw’s community, we heard that our families wanted:
- more support for students in their learning,
- the inclusion of more arts and sports opportunities, and;
- a larger representation of Arrernte Language and Culture.
You will see all these three priorities represented on our Action Plan Overview. A special shout out to Tigen Rumbal for the amazing artwork that beautifully captures all that is special at Bradshaw Primary School.
Bradshaw Primary School is always seeking ways to improve and this year we are committed to growing our staff capacity to deliver high quality instruction.

3M has had a fantastic first term settling into grade 3 life!
In our mentor text unit, we have been busy learning about how and why places change with help from the text ‘My Place’. We have learnt about how Sydney has changed from 1988 all the way back to the story we read this week from 1818. The students have had wonderful discussions not only about how the city has changed, but also why the city changed. Not only have we discussed the changes in Sydney with our mentor text, but we have also been able to connect this to Alice Spring’s Telegraph Station. Students have learnt about what the Telegraph Station has been used for over the years, comparing how this has changed and discussing why it has changed.
3M has also been learning about our growth mindset and how our thoughts can have either a negative or a positive impact on our day. Students have been exploring the negative things they often say to themselves and brainstorming ways they could turn these things around into something positive!
In math, students have been successful in learning how to write and read 9-digit numbers! As well as 3-digit addition and subtraction equations. Students have been exploring these concepts with the learning through doing method and lots of hands-on learning.

Arrernte Language and Culture
Werte!
This year brings something new and exciting for all involved. We have now a lesson for 1 hour per week, all about Arrernte Language and Culture with the lovely Miss Liddle. Throughout the term we have learnt about kinship, identity, sacred sites, natural environment - in particular bush tucker, skin names and family. The students are enjoying learning about the Arrernte Culture with an addition of language. Throughout the year there will be a variety of learning, such as learning on country, excursions, cooking, art, and craft. Sharing my knowledge and experience is such a rewarding situation to be in and I am looking forward to continuing this learning with all at Bradshaw!

Girls and Boys Group
Marles and Urreyes ( Girls and Boys)
Werte,
This year Uncle Tiny and I decided we wanted to shift our focus onto the year 5 and 6 students. We decided we wanted to create groups for boys and girls who need that extra support with social skills. We meet three times a week for an hour and we focus on a certain social skill every week along with some cooking and excursions. The students are loving this time with us, and the feeling is mutual. We are seeing so much growth within the group and it reassures us that this was a great choice to create these groups. We are looking forward to seeing their continued journey.

We have had a busy term of learning in 2SW and can’t quite believe the end of the term is just around the corner! This term, we’ve been busy comparing how transport has changed over time. Students have enjoyed learning about camel trains, steam trains, old cars and road trains. We marvelled at the adventurous Jean Robertson and Kathleen Howell who set the land speed record from Perth to Adelaide during the 1920’s.
In week 10, we’re off on excursion to the Telegraph Station and Transport Museum and can’t wait to see and explore more objects from the last.
In maths we have been busy looking at different strategies we can use when doing addition. We loved exploring the number 1,000 and worked together to create collections of 1,000 things.
