Term 1, Week 3 - 2024
Principal Update
Werte Bradshaw Community,
What a fantastic start to the year. Bradshaw Primary School is extremely privileged and lucky to have so many amazing students who come to school everyday ready to SHINE in learning by working hard, contributing to class discussions and playing with their friends at recess and lunch. Walking around the school, it is exciting to see the enthusiasm our students have for their learning.
A big thanks to all the students who are using the Kiss and Go in the afternoon. All the students have worked so hard on making sure they are sitting calmly and waiting for their parents and families to pick them up. By sitting calmly, it is easier for the students to see their cars and for families to see their children. This improved behaviour at the Kiss and Go has meant that we are often clearing the Kiss and Go of cars within 10-15 minutes of the end of school bell. Well done everyone!
Next week we have our Buddy Festival. Look out for more details. We have a really excititng day planned. Hearing our younger students get excited about who their ‘big’ buddy is very endearing and we know that making buddies across year levels is great for our students as it provides so much learning for all involved.
Have an amazing weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
Thanks all.
Tim O’Sullivan

Buddy Day Event & Fundraiser for Lulo

To our wonderful Bradshaw Family,
Sadly, we have been informed of some devastating news that has and will continue to impact our close knit school for some time.
Deieon (yr 5), Dromen (yr 2) and Avela (pre) along with their parents, received the news in mid December that their littlest child, two year old Anica-Lulo had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. Lulo is an absolute ray of sunshine, boss of the household and loves family dearly. Lulo has been spending time in Adelaide, and since leaving hospital has been able to be surrounded by her family at the Ronald McDonald house. This is just the beginning of a long journey ahead for the Seumanutafa family as they continue to receive treatment for Lulo in Adelaide.
As Bradshaw has done many times before, we need to stick together as one and support gorgeous Lulo and family at this heartbreaking time. Next Friday, the 23rd of February we will be hosting our annual Buddy Day! We would please ask that each student bring a gold coin donation that will go towards this special family of ours. Every little bit helps. We will also have a donations box at the front office if you wish to donate there over the next few weeks. Thank you for supporting one of our own. The Seumanutafa family is extremely grateful for any support. X

Bradshaw Snapshot
Our first 2024 assembly was held last Friday. Students celebrated the many aspects of what is great about being at Bradshaw. Mr O addressed the students about taking opportunities when they arise and how to make the most about their learning.
Many students recieved awards for Sharing and Caring with their peers and Shining in their learning !
Our new teachers took the stage for a little segment called ‘Teacher Hot seat’. Families are welcome to attend our assemblies every even Friday.

Guts Dance
Dance is proven to improve your mood, boost brain function, foster happiness and improve your over-all well-being.
4D and 4Z are loving dance sessions with Guts. Students have been exploring and learning different ways to move their bodies to self - express their emotions and feelings.

Rugby Workshop
Fun in the sun as classes participated in the Rugby workshops!
Learning the sport through drills and gaining knowledge of communication and co-ordination when working in a team.

Year 1 Abel
We have hit the ground running with our learning in Year 1 and I am so proud of these Bradshaw superstars!
In our Mentor Text Unit, we are looking at different types of families. We are reading a book about a boy called Wilbur’s family who has a huge, crazy family from the future. We are determined to give all tasks a go, even if they are tricky and have written some amazing complete sentences. In maths, we have been collecting data by asking our friends questions. We found out what the favourite colour and fruit is in Year 1! We have begun to look at how numbers 1-30 are represented.
We have been refining our classroom routines and are showing how we can be responsible on the mat and at our tables.
It is going to be a FANTASTIC term!

The Deadly Heart Trek
The Deadly Heart Trek is coming to Bradshaw Primary School Monday 26th February.
We welcome you to be a part of the ‘Deadly Heart Trek’ to help end rheumatic heart disease (RHD)
What is rheumatic heart disease (RHD)?
RHD is a preventable disease but if it’s not diagnosed or treated, it can cause heart failure, disability and even death. It starts with a sore throat or skin sore caused by Strep A bacteria and can permanently damage the heart.
What’s this Deadly Heart Trek all about?
The Deadly Heart Trek team are a group of experienced doctors, local health workers and Aboriginal leaders who will be in Mpartnwe (Alice Springs) between February 26th and March 8th. We listen, learn and respond to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities in regard to rheumatic heart disease.
This Trek is in consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Tangentyere Council and other local organisations. The team will offer education on RHD and where requested, identify and treat those affected by RHD. This is not a medical research program, this is a team of dedicated health professionals and Aboriginal people who have Community interest at the core of their work.
Why? Children and Young people are living with undiagnosed cases of RHD and it is very serious.
Who is involved? We are a group of committed doctors, many of you would know us as we’ve been working in Communities for decades on RHD. Also supporting us are several local Aboriginal Cultural Guides led by Noongar woman Vicki Wade, Aboriginal Heart Health Lead at The Heart Foundation, and The Snow Foundation, a philanthropic organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Congress is working together with this Deadly Heart Trek including team members and support. We are also supported by the RHD Control Program.
Lead Doctors include: Dr Gavin Wheaton, Dr Bo Remenyi, Dr Ben Reeves and local Alice Springs Hospital doctors Dr James Dowler and Dr Angus Baumann.
The Deadly Heart Trek team will be visiting on Monday 26th February and will be doing:
- education and activity sessions on RHD
- Skin education – to understand skin sores, scabies and their link to RHD
- Healthy heart checks for children and young people – echocardiographic (echo) screening to detect RHD early
- Healthy skin checks for children and young people
Please fill out the consent forms for your children to have the screening.
If you have feedback or questions you can email the Deadly Heart Trek team via info@deadlyhearttrek.org
