Week 1, Term 2, 2023
Message from Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
I welcome everyone in the Bradshaw community back to Term 2. I hope everyone had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends and recharge.
At the end of Term 1, we said farewell to Mrs Pip Mapstone, who has been at Bradshaw for a number of years in a variety of roles and recently as our Specialist Science teacher. We also said farewell to Ms Su Nguyen who had been teaching the Year 5 ampe akngerre 6 class last term. Both staff will be missed and we wish them the very best for the future.
This term we have welcomed three new staff into our Bradshaw community:
Ms Stacy Vueti who will take up the Specialist Science teaching position.
Ms Chloe Tilmouth who will be taking over as Class Teacher for Year 5 ampe akngerre 6.
Ms Amy Griffiths who will be taking over as Class Teacher for Year 2 ampe mape 5.
As a school we are looking to implement our goals and implementation outcomes as outlined in our Annual School Improvement Plan (ASIP). Our whole school focus has two goals. Firstly, to improve students reading comprehension and secondly, to embed trauma informed practices in the School Wide Positive Behaviour framework.
Last Monday, all staff at Bradshaw had an opportunity to engage in a literacy focused professional learning day. They were introduced to the DIBLES (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) screening tool which is being introduced this term. The screening tool will be administered three times over the coming year and will help teachers to identify younger students who are for instance having difficulty in decoding words to older students who are experiencing difficulties in reading comprehension. This will enable all teachers to better support students in their learning and improve outcomes.
This term will be busy with events, beginning with our Special ANZAC Day Ceremony next week. Our ANZAC Day ceremony will be led by our SRC students on Monday 24th April at 12:30pm. Families are welcome to join, ceremony will take place on the grass at the front of the school. Information regarding other forthcoming events will be available on both Facebook and newsletters during the term. As a school community we look forward to some exciting learning and to a very positive remainder of the year.

Kiss n go and parking reminders
To help make drop off's and pick up's run smoothly and safetly please read the following reminders.
- Please do not park your car in the Kiss n Go areas between 8:00am and 8:30am in the mornings and between 2:50pm and 3:15pm in the afternoons. If you need to walk your child into school, please park in one of the designated parking spaces.
- In the afternoons please do not arrive at the Kiss n Go before 2:55pm. This allows students the time to leave their classes and get to Kiss n Go and eases traffic congestion.
- Children must enter vehicles from the curb side in the pick-up area. They are not allowed to walk around to the right side of the car.
- Drivers must stay in the vehicle when using the Kiss n Go area so that traffic flows easily. If you need to strap your child into a car seat, please park in one of the designated parking spaces.
- It is an offence to park on the yellow lines along Adamson Ave and Flynn Dr. These are specific no stopping areas.
- If dropping your child off near the school gate on the Flynn Oval side please do not stop in the middle of the crossing to drop students off. The crossing is for students to use to cross the road safely. Please use the parking bays further down.
Thank you for your support in these matters.
Uniform reminder
As the weather cools please be reminded that school uniform polices include school jumpers and jackets as compulsory uniform. If your child does not have a Bradshaw jumper or jacket, please visit the front office to purchase them. Any blue coloured pants/tracksuits/shorts are also to be worn.
Attendance
It is important that every student is at school every day. School starts at 8:30am and all students should be at class to start the day.
Please notify the front office when your child will not be at school and the reason they are not at school. If your child is sick for more than three days a medical certificate is required.
You can notify us by phoning us on 8955 2100 or by email to bradshaw.school@education.nt.gov.au

Save the Date for Sports Day!
On a sunny day in the month of May,
Bradshaw school will gather for our annual play.
From egg and spoon to sack race,
Our kids will run and laugh with grace.
Their faces beaming with smiles so true,
For every child will be a winner through and through.
The joy on their faces, so full of pride,
Remind us all why we are there, side by side.
So let us celebrate, the fun that we’ll have,
On this special day, we'll always be glad,
For in these moments, we create memories that last,
And sport brings us joy that forever will cast.
Sports Day this year will be held on the Flynn Oval on Friday 12th May (Week 4). Families are most welcome to attend! Further information will be provided in the coming weeks.
