Update from Leadership
Dear Bradshaw families,
And just like that term 3 is more than half way finished! These weeks are marked by a whole school effort to see through not 1; not 2, but 4 school camps! 5 Priestley returned from camp late last week—so many happy, smiley (and extremely tired!) faces upon return. Our Year 4s have returned from camping at Hamilton Downs yesterday, and our Year 5s headed out straight after their return. Our Year 6 students will be going on their bush camp to Gem Tree next week.
In preparation for these camps, teachers have been working tirelessly to plan for learning experiences that provide students with incredible opportunities to develop friendships, challenge themselves, and learn responsibility in a fun and engaging environment. Thank you to all the families and teachers who have supported these camps and helped our students create memories and experiences they will cherish all their lives.
At Bradshaw, we are proud of our local Indigenous culture and we take many opportunities to celebrate and plan for diversity at school. Our dedicated Indigenous Language and Culture (ILC) group led by Mrs Ward, have organized a number of fundraising activities to raise awareness and funds for a Yeperenye artwork on our concourse. The lap-a-thon, aptly named Caterpillar Crawl, Yippy Skip will see all students walking, skipping and crawling some laps around the school on Friday of Week 8, September 11th. Students have been set a challenge to gather sponsorship for this event and all money raised is due to be returned on the 11/9/20. Also on the day is a Hot Dog and Popper lunch. Please send back $5.00 as soon as possible so we can make sure we have enough supplies on the day.
The ILC group is also raffling a beautiful scarf created by Amunda Gorey. Tickets are available at the front office for $5.00.
As we move into the warmer months of the year, we wanted to remind all students and families about our sun safe policy. Did you know that reducing exposure to UV during the first 15 years of life greatly decreases the risk of skin cancer developing later in life? Our students attend school and play outside during the peak UV hours, and so it is very important that they wear their hats whenever they are not in the shade. Our sun safe plan at school increases students’ motivation to wear hats by educating them about the importance of playing safely in the sun, and by offering a hat as one of our Bubble Card #15 reward. Be sure to go onto our Facebook page to check out the hilarious video some of our teachers have created to remind students of our sun-safe processes at school. We have also made it easier for students to access hats at school, and they also have the option of leaving their hats in their tidy-trays or classrooms instead of taking them home. Our teachers have been reminding students of our sun-safe policy before play-time, and are checking that all students are wearing hats before they go out to play. As a parent as well as a teacher, I know how hard it is to help kids learn how not to lose their hats. A good tip is to mark your child’s hat so that it stands out (a special ribbon or a bow), and to write their names on it.
Last, our Student Representative Council (SRC) students will be running the Father’s Day stall tomorrow. All classes will have a chance to visit the stall and those students who bring money can purchase a special item for a special person in their lives. Please note that students will only be able to purchase one item this year.
Attendance
At Bradshaw, we are currently working hard to increase our attendance percentage across the school. Our goal is to have every child attend 90% of the time or above. We currently sit at 86.9% for Term 3, and 84.7% for all of 2020. We are working closely with the Engagement and Attendance team and the Compliance team to contact all families whose attendance is sitting below the expected level, to see what support may be needed to ensure students attend school every day. Families whose children who are currently attending less than 80% will receive a letter explaining the impact of non-attendance on student outcomes. Let’s see what we can do to get them all above 90% for the end of term.

Year 5 Camp Hamilton Downs
Our happy campers from 5P and Cheetahs went to Hamilton Downs last week and had a blast! This week our Year 4's also just returned back from camp, and the rest of Year 5's will be at Hamilton Downs until Friday 4th Semptember.
Next week our Year 6's will be on camp at Gem Tree from Monday 7th - Wednesday 9th September.
If you have any further questions about the camp, please give us a call.

Year 4 Anderson and Ralph
Some more very happy campers went to Hamilton Downs last week and had a blast! We are so lucky to have such a great Bradshaw group to help with these camps! We would like to thank fantastic volunteers that helped with this camp as it would not have gone ahead without them!

Bradshaw Bunnings BBQ
The Bradshaw School Council are running a fundraiser bbq at Bunnings on Sunday 20th September. They are seeking volunteers to help out. If you have an hour or two to spare please let Nadine Price know by calling the office or email nadine.price@ntschools.net. Thanks for your support.

Indigenous Literacy Foundation
At Bradshaw, we were extremely fortunate to be gifted a huge range of books from the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This included books that were written and illustrated by children or adults from remote communities across the country. I know our students and teachers will love reading these.
Many thanks to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We are very grateful!
