Week 5, Term 3, 2022
Leadership Update
It’s mid-way through Term 3 and students at Bradshaw are enjoying a range of extra-curricular activites as well as doing an amazing job of growing themselves as learners. Bradshaw’s school improvement focus this year has been Maths and teachers have been participating in a range of professional learning sessions to deepen their knowledge of Maths teaching and learning. Next year the focus will be on Literacy as we continue to aim for growth and improvement in student progress and achievement.
Last week and this week our Transition to Year 3 students have participated in the swimming program. It is a highlight for our students who develop their swimming skills and confidence in the water over the week. Thank you to families who organise swimming gear and have everything organised for the day so that their child can be successful.
This week the Year 4 and Year 5 students are enjoying time on camp at Hamilton Downs. This is such a special time for students who get to learn outside and develop stronger relationships with peers and their teachers. A huge thank you to our staff who give up time with their own family over 3 days to spend 24 hours a day supervising our campers.
The Science Fair last week was a huge success with many families coming along and enjoying the fascinating activities on offer. Once again, thanks to our teachers who go above and beyond to provide exciting activities for Bradshaw students and our school community.
Next week we celebrate Book Week. The theme for Book Week is Dreaming with Eyes Open. On Wednesday there is a book swap where students can bring along a pre-loved book and swap it for another one and on Friday we have a dress-up day. Students can come to school dressed as their favorite book character. We will parade our costumes at an assembly and prizes will be awarded to the best costumes. Families are invited to the assembly starting at 8.40am. Shortlisted books for 2022 can be found below.
School photos will be taken next week. Please check the day that your child’s photo will be taken elsewhere in the newsletter and make sure they come dressed in school uniform with their brightest smile.
Also next week, our Year 2, 3 and 4 students will enjoy a ballet workshop presented by the Australian ballet. What a special treat!
With all this quality teaching and learning and fun, how can you not love Bradshaw. However, we do want to gather the school communities’ ideas on how we can make Bradshaw an even better school. Please take the time to fill out the survey so that your voice is included in decisions we make about school improvement. Link and further details below.
Kind regards,
Jennie Ward
Assistant Principal

Transition Stubbings
Last week we went to the Town Pool for our swimming lessons. We enjoyed splashing in the water, learning new strokes and having lots of fun!

Science with Professor Pip
Year 1 Abel get up close and personal with our friends from down under. These magnificent creatures are a vital part of our ecosystem, by nourishing our soil and breaking down organic waste.
Here are some facts about worms.
- Worms are a type of invertebrate called annelids, which means 'ringed' animal.
- Worms have no limbs and their bodies are divided by rings into repeated segments.
- Worms love to eat fruit, vegetable scraps, cereals, grains, bread, rice and pasta.
- They are big coffee and tea drinkers but like it mixed with crushed egg shell.

Scientists in Schools
This week we welcomed some guest speakers to talk to Bradshaw students about how they use science in their jobs.
The amazing Tom Falzon from the Earth Sanctuary came and shared some facts and information about space with the Year 1's. The students lay on their backs and watched projections of the sun, moon and stars. This was such a treat as we have been learning about the seasons and how different cultures explain what season it is.
John Tyne inspired the Year 4's interest in the natural environment sharing his knowledge about plants, animals and rocks and how this knowledge is used in being a Park Ranger.
Louise O'Brien (yep...Miss O'Brien's Mum) is a chemist. She taught the Year 3 students about chromatography. The students undertook their own experiments at school and then some students continued at home. Year 3 families, ask your child what chromatography is!
Special thanks to Tom, John and Louise for inspiring students about opportunities to work using science.
