Week 1, Term 3, 2022
Leadership Update
There has been no time to dwell in post-holiday blues, from day one the school was prepared to welcome students back and get down to our core business of learning. Over the holidays, Mr George and Mrs Shaw worked hard to see that the school grounds were given a thorough refresh, every surface glisten and the yard had never looked better. Our enthusiastic and dedicated teachers ensured classrooms were orderly and well-prepared for the term with purposeful lessons. It has been a joy to watch students jump straight back into learning and reconnect again with each other. At Bradshaw, we believe that school is the best place to learn and coming to school every day not only helps kids progress, but it also helps them build their friendships and confidence. Please ensure you notify the front office if your child is absent from school.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the new families enrolling at Bradshaw and new staff members. This Semester, Kim Dorfman (Miss D) will be taking over in T/1D. Kim has already noticed the kind Bradshaw community embrace and is enjoying getting to know her amazing students.
We will say farewell to Mr Williams at our next assembly as he has accepted a teaching position at Ampilatwatja School for the next 6 months. He is going to join our assembly via TEAMS! Mr Williams has worked across every year level at Bradshaw as the history, geography, science and roving relief teacher. Thank you Mr Williams for sharing your passion for science, ICT and digital technology!
On Monday, teachers prepared to embark on a collaborative learning enquiry cycle to improve outcomes in Maths. This week, through targeted assessments, teachers have been gathering evidence to build a profile of students thinking and strategies. They will then work together to design and adapt engaging open-ended tasks that supports student’s new learning. This is an exciting time for Mathematics education at Bradshaw.
It may come as no surprise that Term 3 is bursting with events and activities. You can find all events listed on our school’s webpage, or alternatively you can keep updated on our Facebook page. Our NAIDOC Week celebrations will commence in week 3 and will include cultural learning around the theme “Get up, Show up, Stand up”. After school on Thursday 11th August all families are invited to come and experience the many hand-on investigations at The Science Fair. In Weeks 4 and 5, students from Transition to Year 3 will dive into swimming lessons, keep an eye out for further information and permission notes coming home with your child. The Year 4s and 5s will get to make special memories at their Hamilton Downs camp in week 5. In the following week, it will be time to begin preparing a costume for the Book Week parade and smile for school photos. And, on Thursday 22nd September, you must not miss the much-anticipated School Concert and Art Show. We have so much to look forward to!
Our school is stronger with the support of our community, we value open lines of communication. If you have any questions, concerns or feedback that you would like to share with us, please feel free to contact any member of our staff.
All the best for a rewarding Semester 2,
Jessica Fahey

Transition Manchester
In Transition Manchester we are settling back into school and enjoying our morning Discovery Learning time. We have been making the letter ‘U’, using kinetic sand to improve our fine motor skills and building with construction to show our creativity and problem solving skills.

Year 2/3 Rinkin
Bucket fillers – these are a great way for us to anonymously acknowledge our peers and what they bring to the world around us. In 2/3R this week, we filled each other’s buckets with compliments which brought big smiles to everyone’s faces and was a great way to start off the term.

School Council News
The sub-committes of School Council are a great way to be involved in improving our school and the opportunities for our students. There are three sub-committees that meet outside the regular School Council meeting. These are:
- Finance Committee
- Buildings and Grounds Committee
- Fundraising Committee
The next meeting of the Building and Ground Committee is on Wednesday, 3 August at 4.30pm. This will be a walk around the school to create a wish-list. All parents are invited to the meeting - you may have an idea to make Bradshaw even more amazing.
The next meeting of School Council is on Monday, 16 August at 5.30pm in the library. All parents are welcome to the meeting which runs for about 1 hour covering the Principal's Report, Treasurer's Report and the Reports from the Sub-Committees. Our School Council is an active and interesting space to have your input into the school.

COVID Update
With COVID and flu circulating in our community, at Bradshaw we are ensuring that hygiene remains a priority. This means that:
- Students are handwashing regularly
- Hand sanitiser is available
- Physical Distancing is being monitored
- Desks are disinfected at the end of each day
- Additional COVID cleaning of high touch surfaces happens daily
- Mask wearing is a personal choice for staff and students
If students present to the office unwell or with COVID symptoms, families will be contacted to collect their child.
If there is a disruption to your child's learning due to staff absence, then a note will be sent home to families with the arrangements for those days. There are only a few relief teachers available and so students will be placed in an alternative classroom.
We are Recruiting

We are recruiting three more teachers to join our incredible team of dedicated educators. When you see the advertisement on our Facebook page, please share it far and wide. It is through our networks of friends and family locally and interstate that we will find the next superstar (just like our Transition staff) to be part of our team at Bradshaw. We are recruiting for the following positions:
- Roving Relief Teacher
- Primary Teacher
- Early Childhood Teacher
Attendance

School Attendance YTD %
It is important that every student is at school every day. Our goal at Bradshaw is 90% attendance. From this Term, Attendance will feature in our newsletter and we will highlight the attendance over the previous fortnight.
Some points to remember on Departmental policies in place for attendance:
• School is mandatory for every school aged child and every child enrolled in a preschool.
• Students who have more than three days off unwell MUST obtain a medical certificate. Students who do not provide a medical certificate will be recorded as unacceptable absence following the third day.
• Families taking holidays during the school term must advise the school.
Please notify the front office when your child will not be at school. This can be done by phoning us on 8955 2100 or by email to bradshaw.school@education.nt.gov.au
This Term is full of fun events and activities and we don’t want you to miss out!
