Week 9, Term 2, 2022
Leadership Update
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening the school was a buzz with families visiting for their Student Learning Conferences. These invaluable discussions allowed students to discuss their learning and achievements for this semester and their goals for next semester. If you were unable to attend, please make contact with your child’s teacher or the front office to make a time.
Next week we have Team Planning Days for our classroom teachers and specialists. Classes will be paired to allow this day to occur. Staff spend the day using data to plan for future learning at the point of need for students in their care. It allows all classroom teachers to come back in Term 3 fully prepared from day 1 for a jam packed term of high level teaching and learning. Please note also that Day 1 of term 3 (Monday 18th July) will be a pupil free day as staff will have “Start-up day” to focus on maths, writing and the Alert program. School resumes on Tuesday, 19 July 2022.
On Friday, 40 of our students attended an Interschool Sports carnival. Coach Heggan, Miss Priestley and Mrs Fahey were proud of our sporting ambassadors who conducted themselves with pride displaying outstanding sportsmanship. Well done to all our competitors.
On Friday 24th June we will enjoy a special assembly to celebrate Matariki Māori New Year. Our multi cultural family at Bradshaw includes a large proportion of Māori Nationals and we will help to celebrate their special day with them. This will include a song learnt by all students. Families are welcome to attend.
This term we have also enjoyed introducing a new program which has operated from the Learning Hub called “Literacy Leaders”. Selected Year 6 students have prepared a big book to share with the pre – school classes and then organised an art activity related to the story. This has helped forge strong relationships with the pre-school students who will transition to the “big school” in a few very short months while also beginning those early literacy skills so essential for the development of reading and writing.
Our mid-year holiday is just around the corner and an opportunity to relax and enjoy good times with friends and family. From the Leadership Team and all staff at Bradshaw, we wish everyone a safe and relaxing time over the 3 week break.

Literacy Leaders in action

Whats been happening at Bradshaw...
Acacia Dinosaurs
This term we have been working on our social skills and learning how to work as a team. We have been learning about appropriate coping skills and behaviour, as well as how to be a good friend. We have had a lot of fun learning about ourselves and each other.
The Dinosaurs have been very busy writing books this term during writing lessons. Our imaginations are really running wild and we are making some very creative and interesting stories! Our drawing skills are getting much better. We have also been enjoying science this term and thoroughly enjoyed the skittles experiment.

Maths in the Artroom!
Year 4 Pierce
We have been busy in 4P!
After completing our learning around the First Fleet and mapping skills we decided to plot out the original course of the First Fleet along with alternatives and compared the distances. We have also been spending time working on word problems using money. Today we spent time with our buddies doing some art for NAIDOC week!

Bradshaw OSHC Vacation Care
With the mid-year break just around the corner, OSHC YMCA will be providing a program. Please see attached link for more information.
School Review
An external School Review Team met with staff, students and families over 3 days to learn about Bradshaw and review the school against the 9 domains of the National School Improvement Tool. Focusing on these 9 areas leads to an improvement in student learning outcomes.
Using the findings from the Review, Bradshaw will develop with staff and the community, its’ Explicit Improvement Agenda for the next 4 years. Look out for opportunities next semester to share your ideas about how Bradshaw can improve the teaching and learning for all students.
The Review Team shared with staff their findings through Commendations, Affirmations and Recommendations. This 3 page document will be shared with School Council at the next meeting. If you would like a copy, please contact the front office.
Four of the commendations for the Bradshaw staff included:
- The unconditional positive regard for students and the investment in meeting their social and emotional needs.
- The way in which staff expressed their commitment to finding ways to improve student outcomes
- The way in which staff seek to engage respectfully with each other, students, and families.
- The investment in supporting students’ social and emotional wellbeing via the Learning Hub, the Aboriginal Education Officer, and classroom support staff.
It is exciting and affirming to receive this feedback and to now use this to plan for the future of our school. There is an enormous pride in saying “I am a part of Bradshaw Primary School” – a truly unique and special community!

The next Bradshaw School Council General Meeting will be held on Monday 20th June. Parents are welcome to join as observers. Meeting will be at 5:30pm in the School Library.
