Week 7, Term 2, 2022
Leadership Update
We have a busy end to the term. Now the weather is cooling down many students are wearing jumpers and jackets to school. A navy blue jumper/jacket is school uniform. School hoodies ($45) and jackets ($50) are available from the front office. Even though the weather has cooled down students are still required to wear the bucket hat at school. These are also available at the front office for $10. Please ensure your child’s name is clearly written on these items so they can be returned to them if lost. There is a large basket of lost property near the front office if anything is lost at school – please check this if needed.
Teachers are busy with completing student assessments and writing reports. These reports are a summary of your child’s achievement for the first semester. Student reports will go home on Wednesday of the last week of school 22nd June).
Student Learning Conferences are scheduled later being held in two weeks – after school hours on the 14th, 15th and 16th June. These are important meetings where families, teachers and students can chat about student learning and set goals for learning. You should have received a note this week about this – if you have not received this information please contact your child’s teacher or the front office.
Just a reminder about attendance for the last few weeks of this term. It is important that a child attends school every day. Did you know…. if a student misses 1 day per week, that adds up to 40 days per year! And over the 13 years a child can attend school, that is 2 ½ years of school they have missed. Every day counts!
And finally, a big congratulations to our musicians, singers, readers and dramatists who have participated in the Eisteddfod. Bradshaw students have represented themselves, their school and families well. A great effort by all students, and thankyou to Mrs Fahey and the team of staff who supported our students at Eisteddfod this year. The opportunity to perform at Eisteddfod prepares many of our students for our whole school concert at the end of Term 3. There will be more information about this next term.
Keep warm everyone.

Whats been happening at Bradshaw...
Year 2 Liddle
In 2L, we have been learning about Measurement, in particular length and height. The students were very intrigued about who is the tallest and who is the shortest in our class. We used formal measuring, as we wanted our measurements to be accurate. We used measuring tapes. Some students found it difficult to use because they had never used one before but once taught they were off measuring anything and EVERYTHING! They even wanted to measure their dear old teacher 😊

P.E.
Last week in P.E. students from years 4-6 were involved in team building games. They were to plan and teach their classmates offensive and defensive game play strategies and then reflect on their success as a team. The picture below shows students in Year 6 playing a game of Connect 4 in human format.

Transition / Year 1 Markham Price
T/1 MP have been focusing on helping others in Social and Emotional Learning lessons. The students have enjoyed playing the Life Raft game as they have had to help each other to avoid the shark. This week we identified people who can help us at school, at home and in the community. We each found 10 people who could help.

Year 6 Lewis
This week 6L have been focusing on Reconciliation Week. Students have looked at and used data from Indigenous perspectives to create side by side column graphs. The class have enjoyed writing their own ideas about how as a class we can be inclusive and caring of each other. 6L also got to enjoy some buddy time doing mindful colouring and going outside for a play.
News from the Library
Bradshaw was delighted to host the very accomplished author Phil Kettle and illustrator Marc McBride. Phil Kettle provided our Year 3/4 students with some inspiring ideas about story writing, including how to create an amazing story plan, where to get ideas from, how to build characters, etc., while our Year 5/6 students were inspired to draw dragon-like creatures during a creative illustrating session with Marc McBride. It was a positive experience to meet and interact with such talented people.

Staff Development Day
Is the perimeter of your hands longer than your height? Solving tasks like these ignites curiosity to problem solve, share thinking, try ideas and collaborate, while building and strengthening understanding of measurement. This leads to more questions and more enquiry.
The Friday PD Day enabled teachers to come together to talk about and improve their understanding of how to plan, teach and assess maths by actually doing the maths to identify the learning. Special Thank You to YOU, our school community, for your support of the PD day in enabling teachers to have a day of learning. Try this measurement activity with your family.

Eisteddfod!
Bradshaw took to the stage like ducks to water, with over 200 students participating in this year’s Centrailian Eisteddfod. It was a mammoth fortnight of drama, dancing, and singing. We were extremely proud of each individual that braved the stage. Students developed confidence in their abilities and challenged themselves to work on their performances. A special thanks to our staff who engaged and enabled our students to shine so bright.

Student Learning Conferences
Students and teachers are excited to be sharing their progress at the Student Learning Conferences in Week 9 from Tuesday 14th June to Thursday 16th June.

Rotary Club of Alice Springs
We would like to give a huge thankyou to the Rotary Club of Alice Springs for their generous donation of a Defibrillator (AED) to our school. It is located in the First Aid Room. We have registered the defibrillator location with St John and it is also for use by members of the community within the immediate vicinity, in case of emergency. Please take the time to have a look at the St John First Responder app - this is an invaluable tool in an emergency situation. It offers users access to vital information, such as first aid instruction guides, location of the nearest medical centre and emergency department, location of nearest defibrillator locations and more.
