Week 1, Term 2, 2022
Leadership Update
It was a short and restful break for staff and students and great to see the many smiling faces on the first day of Term 2. Students settled back quickly into the classroom routines so they can focus on those all important learning goals. Our attendance this week was 86%! Our school goal is 90%. Please continue to call the office if your child is absent. Being at school every day counts.
How have things changed at school in Term 2 with COVID? Our focus now is on Living with COVID. Hygiene, cleaning and wellbeing remain the most important part of being a healthy school community, and so:
- Students are continuing to hand wash regularly
- Classrooms are getting extra attention with the cleaning of desks and high touch surfaces
- If students present with COVID symptoms parents are asked to come in to collect them.
- We will continue to notify families via text if there is a positive case in their child’s class.
- Staff and students are encouraged to wear masks at school but this is not required.
- Families are welcome on to the school grounds
- Families can enter the classroom however our preference is for families to drop off and pick up from outside the classroom.
- The whole school community are invited to outside events such as Sports Day and ANZAC Day.
- Whole School Assemblies will resume with families of Class Award recipients invited to attend.
- Staff and volunteers must be vaccinated.
- Parent – teacher interviews can go ahead.
When and if our COVID response changes, families will be notified via the school newsletter.
Have you heard about the new Sensory Garden between the library and Year 1 classroom? There are so many sensory experiences all in one small space – amazing - interesting paths, beautiful flowers, fragrant herbs and a new space for our students to admire and care for. Special thanks to Sharon Markham who led this improvement project and together with teachers Nadine Price, Cayleigh Abel and Laura Haigh, planted the garden in the holiday break. Also assisting with the project was Jok Markham, Annalise Meijer and Gabrielle Meijer. Our Sensory Garden was made possible by the generous donation of plants, landscaping and irrigation goods from Bunnings. Come and check out how our garden grows!
The excitement for Sports Day is building with the roar of house chants filling our school oval each morning. In PE, students are practising field and running events ready for the big day on Friday 6 May. All families are invited to cheer on Ure, Alkere, Arne and Uterne from 8.30am on Flynn Oval.
This year the staff are working to improve how we plan, teach and assess maths, using maths learning progressions. Teachers will be participating in a number of maths workshops and a Whole Staff Development Day on Friday 27 May. Students are not required to attend on this day.
Term 2 is a when we report on student learning and progress. Student Led Conferences are on 15 & 16 June and school reports will go home the following week.
It is a full term of learning and events for everyone. I look forward to seeing ALL of our school community at Sports Day!

Whats been happening at Bradshaw...
Year 1 Gill
1G have starting Term 2 off strong! We have enjoyed sharing our holiday adventures with our peers. Our discovery learning sessions have been a great connecting time within the classroom, to play with new friends & explore new learning areas. Some exciting new topics have begun already and we can't wait to share our learning with our families throughout the term.
Year 5 Usher
5U has hit the ground running in Term 2. We've been practising multiplication and division, and using a variety of mental and written strategies to solve complex problems.
In Literacy we've been learning about Perspectives related to ANZAC Day. We completed a directed drawing of Poppies, and accompanied the drawing with a line from the poem Flanders Field that resonated with each student.
In these photos we are preparing for our new HASS unit, sharing what we know, and would like to learn more about.

Year 2/3 Rinkin
To finish off Term 1, 2/3R celebrated their great homework achievements with a ‘Wheels Day’. All students had a fantastic time and were even joined by a special guest celebrity Ms. Turk.
We are all looking forward to achieving this great milestone again in Term 2.

Transition Manchester
In Transition Manchester we have been learning the sound ‘c’ . C is for compass.

Sensory Garden
Our wonderful Early Years Team have worked incredibly hard over the holidays to improve our junior play area for students. They have created an engaging outdoor Sensory Garden and path for students to explore, enjoy and take care of.
We would like to thank Bunnings for getting behind this project and supporting us with their generous donations.

Sports Day!
The start of Term 2 is well underway and the Year 3 to Year 6 students have been busy competing in the following events: 400 Metre Run, Long Jump, Javelin, Discus and Shotput. The students have all given their very best and they have thoroughly embraced this aspect of the Physical Education Program. Students in Year 3 to 6 will also be challenged with running the 800 Metre Race in the near future. Our amazing Year 6 leaders have been teaching their house chants to the Transition to Year 2 students and they have done it with such confidence and purpose that before too long they had everyone in their team singing along and getting involved!
Our Sports Day will be held on Flynn Oval on Friday the 6th of May. Families are most welcome to attend but due to physical distancing requirements they will be in a separate area to the students.

Staff Development Day
Families, please mark in your calendar. A Staff Development Day will be taking place on Friday 27th May (Term 2, Week 6).
There will be no school for students on this day.
The YMCA will be providing a program, please see flyer attached and book in early to secure a place if required.
