Leadership Update
The Akaltye Team is a very active and passionate group of staff who work together to enhance Cultural Competence and inclusion across the school. The Education Department has a framework to guide us through four levels of Cultural Competency – Awareness, Understanding, Competence and Responsiveness.
The Akaltye Team meets 3 or 4 times a term to discuss ideas about how to develop Cultural Competence plus we work across a number of other areas including classroom programs and resources. The Department has produced an Indigenous Languages and Culture Curriculum which guides our work in this area. We still need to refine the curriculum for Bradshaw and family input is essential to localise the learning.
The team also works on enhancing the buildings and grounds so that all cultures feel connected and respected. A current vision is to develop a yarning circle with seats, a firepit and a shelter of some kind. This will allow for more outdoor learning which we all love, especially when the weather is so beautiful in Term 2 and 3. If you have ideas or expertise in this area we would love to hear from you.
We organise school events such as NAIDOC and are always looking for dancers, singers and artists to celebrate this week with us. We would really love community members to be part of our Akaltye Team and share your thoughts and ideas. You don’t necessarily need to attend the meetings (you can if you wish) as we can yarn with you when it suits you. If you are keen to contribute please let Shannan know. We would love to have you.
We are seeking community feedback regarding the renaming of our classroom blocks. In the past they have been named after the planets and Arrernte birds. (difficult to remember and say) Our idea is to call them…
- ampe akweke (small child) for T /1
- ampe mape (mob of children) for 2/3
- ampe (child) for Year 4
- ampe akngerre (big kid) for 5 & 6
A survey form will come home on Monday so please look out for it and give us your thoughts. If you write you child’s name on the back of the form it will go in a draw to win some extra play time for them next week.
You can email thoughts and ideas to me at jennie.ward@education.nt.gov.au if you wish and I’ll take them to the Akaltye Team for discussion. I hope to hear from you soon.

Year 2 Telegraph Station Excursion
On Wednesday, all students in Year 2 visited the historic Telegraph Station Precinct as part of our studies in History. The weather was glorious, and students happily engaged in all the excursion activities. The students listened attentively to an information session about how the Telegraph line was established and what life was like during this time. Students also appreciated information shared about the “Bungalows” and the significant impact this has had on our indigenous community. After the presentation, each class walked around the precinct and explored the various buildings. The Post and Telegraph Office, the Blacksmith Shed and the Stationmaster’s Kitchen were the highlights.
After morning tea, students spent their recess in the beautiful park environment. They happily played and made their own fun. To finish off a fantastic morning, students sketched portraits of the historic buildings. Thank you to Mrs. McKinnon and Mrs. T for volunteering to assist us with this excursion. A big well done to all of our students for their respectful behavior throughout the excursion.

Year 6 Warner
It has been a few busy weeks in 6 Warner as we round out Term 1 both focused in our learning and taking on some of the new and exciting challenges that Year 6 brings. Students have been working towards writing their own narratives, drafting, and editing their work to produce some creative, engaging stories. In amongst this, we have made time to build relationships with our buddy class, Transition Barnes. We have loved spending time reading, creating, and playing together.
We are also very excited to report that Morning Fitness has started with a bang! We have worked hard over the term to refine our leadership skills and prepare for the responsibilities that being a student leader brings. We are very proud of the fantastic feedback we have received from staff and students on how we have run fitness and look forward to continuing to grow in confidence and build our repertoire of fitness games next term.

Acacia Dinosaurs
The Dinosaurs have been very busy writing books this term during writing lessons. Our imaginations are really running wild and we are making some very creative and interesting stories! Our drawing skills are getting much better.
We have also been enjoying science this term and thoroughly enjoyed the skittles experiment.

Acacia Cheetahs
The Cheetah class have BIG plans for their future!

Danny wants to be a motor mechanic.

Kevaia wants to be a train driver.

Shilayne wants to be a Doctor.

Toni wants to be a mechanic.

Johnic wants to be a mining engineer.

Jaydis wants to be a taxi driver.
