Leadership Update
Werte, families of Bradshaw,
My name is Pat Anderson and I am delighted to be the Special Education Teacher in The Hub this year.
So, what is The Hub? And what happens there you may well be thinking?
The Hub has had a bit of a facelift this year and my main aim has been to create a calm, safe and quiet space where students can come for a variety of reasons:
- Upset or angry over an issue
- Overwhelmed by the classroom environment and needing some space
- Been involved in an issue in the playground and need to talk through the problem
- Be involved in additional programs for learning and social skill development. These might be cooking, craft, playing games etc.
- Spending time at recess or lunch if the playground has become unsafe for them and others around them
All students have visited the Hub and are aware of why they may come here and what will happen. They were excited by the new look space ….so please parents, find time to pop in and say hello and have a look too.
The Hole in the ground…certainly something to be excited about!
It just looks like a big hole in the ground at the moment but the excavations for the new demountable building have begun. This is an exciting development for Bradshaw and will help relieve the pressure of classroom use for our growing population. Within one month we should have 4SW happily housed in their new space …. BUT WAIT! THAT’S NOT ALL, A NEW PLAYGROUND WILL BE ON THE WAY TOO!
AFL Interschool Competition
It is always a thrill to send some of our Bradshaw ambassadors to an interschool tournament. 12 students from Year 6 will accompany Ms. Warner to Ross Park Oval for the competition today. Many thanks to Coach Heggan for organizing this opportunity for some of our boys and girls to showcase their talents with the footy.
So much to celebrate and look forward to at this exciting learning space called Bradshaw.
Have a great week ahead

The Hub: A safe, calm and quiet space
Whats been happening at Bradshaw...
Year 3 O'Brien
3 O’Brien have been focusing on our Growth Mindsets. Students have been working on their own personal affirmations to help them face challenges head on. They have come up with statements such as ‘never give up’, ‘be kind to everyone’ and ‘try your best’.

Transition/Year 1 Markham / Price
In T/1MP we have been exploring what kindness looks like at school and at home. The students discussed what kindness was and created a picture of what kindness means to them so that we could make a kindness quilt.

Year 2/3 Rinkin
2/3R has been on fire in Maths this term looking at Place Value and Patterns! We have been exploring different number patterns and using our creativeness through dominos.

Alert Program
Last year our school introduced the Alert program across all classes from Pre School to Year 6 to teach our students about their bodies and provide them with skills to self regulate. Over the next couple of weeks and well into Term 2 and beyond all classes will be dedicating 1 hour a week to explicitly learn about these concepts including sensory needs, senses (did you know we actually have 8 senses?) and what can we do to help our bodies when we are feeling too excited, sad, sluggish, angry etc.
The Alert program uses the metaphor of an engine to help students learn how to talk about self-regulation—how is your engine running?. We all have an “engine” — that part that gets us out of bed, propels us through the day, and drops our head back on the pillow at night. When engines are running “just right,” then it’s easy to be attentive, focused, and alert (to self-regulate) throughout the day. We move among these three states of alertness (low, just right and high). Each one has its place. But “just right” is the one we want your child to be in for learning or making friends at school.
Watch this space over the next few weeks! If you have any other questions or would like to find out more about the Alert program, you are always welcome to come in for a visit and a chat with your child’s teacher or Assistant Principal Ioana Suciu.
