Week 1, Term 1, 2022
Leadership Update
Welcome back to school for 2022! It has been a start like no other. Thank you to the families for your support this week in understanding and following our COVID safe practices while we adjust to our new ways of learning together. The students have embraced the new routines with the regular handwashing, physical distancing, optional mask wearing and additional cleaning.
Thank you to families who have been quick to advise if their child is unwell, respond to calls to collect children and to let us know if their child is going to be absent from school. This communication is so important and know that your efforts to stay in touch make a big difference to us.
Student have settled quickly into learning and classrooms are busy with calm, purposeful learning. Some students will even tell you that they have done a spelling test this week, completed their first writing sample and shown what they know in maths. Important at Bradshaw is the effort in the first two weeks to build relationships as a class, with peers, with the teacher and classroom support staff, learn classroom routines and understand the expectations for learning. Already there have been so many positive, enthusiastic comments about the start of school from families, students AND staff.
This week we welcome some new staff to Bradshaw. A special welcome or welcome back to:
Cayleigh Abel – Year 1 Teacher
Lexie O’Brien – Year 3 teacher
Leila M’Nijel – Year 5 Teacher
Jess Lewis – Year 6 Teacher
Krydence Schwalger – Classroom Support – Transition
Stephanie Tilmouth - Classroom Support – Transition
Jamielee Wolfenden – Preschool Assistant
Wendy Barsdley – Preschool Assistant
Tsun-En Cheng – Roving Relief Teacher and Music Teacher – Term 1
Over the holiday break, Bradshaw has been working hard to recruit a Year 2 teacher and our search continues. David Williams has kindly agreed to teach the class until we find a teacher. I am grateful that David has stepped in to teach the class at the eleventh hour.
Families have received texts this week notifying of positive COVID cases in year levels. Our process is two parts. First we text all families in the school identifying the Year level where the positive cases have been. Second, a letter is sent to the families of students in the class of the positive COVID case so that they are aware. Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms.
Our wet weather this week saw some minor flooding in some classrooms and a few indoor recess and lunch breaks. Students saw the opportunity to get to know their peers with board games, drawing, talking, construction and a “Just Dance” dance off.
This weekend promises to be an adventurous one with lots of puddles to play in and explore. Have fun!

If your child is unwell
We are following the Education Department operating guidelines around students presenting with COVID symptoms. In considering the safety and well-being of our students and school community we are being vigilant and appreciate your ongoing support with keeping students at home or collecting students from school when they come to the office with symptoms. Anyone with a runny nose, cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or loss of taste and smell need to go home and return to school when they are well. We have had a few positive cases of COVID in our school. We understand that this may be an inconvenience for families but the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our priority.

Transition Stubbings
We have had lots of excited faces start Transition this week! We are building friendships, getting creative and exploring our new environment.

Year 1 Abel
We have had an amazing week in Grade 1A. I have been super proud of the children’s positive attitudes and enthusiasm. This week we have learnt about how we can be hygiene superheros to keep ourselves and our friends safe. We have unpacked our school values and discussed how we can be responsible, learn together and challenge ourselves in the classroom. We have spoken a lot about identifying and expressing our emotions. We even made our very own feelings monsters using colours to represent how we feel. Grade 1A have adapted quickly to our new classroom routines. I can’t wait for a great year ahead!

4 Pierce
In 4P this week we have focused on getting to know our new teacher and classmates. It has been a fun week and can’t believe it is already over!

5 Usher
5U have been working on getting to know each other, learning routines, and feeling comfortable working with partners, and sharing our ideas. We played with mystery numbers and simple equations to demonstrate our maths thinking, and to tell people about ourselves.

For students who are isolating at home, learning packs are available from the school. Please email Jennie.ward@education.nt.gov.au to organise these for your child.
