Week 1, Term 3 2020
Update From Leadership
Newsletter Week 1 Term 3 - 2020
Dear Bradshaw Families,
I hope that you took the time over the school holiday break to connect with family and friends, and to rest and revitalise in our beautiful NT countryside. 2020 has certainly been a year of new challenges and, whilst we have risen to every challenge, it is vital that we take the time to recharge our batteries in preparation for the months ahead. I look forward to catching up with everyone as soon as possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michele Turk for taking on the Principal role while I was on personal leave in Term 2. I am sure you will all agree that she did an amazing job and that we are very fortunate to have such a strong educational leader on our team at Bradshaw. Equally, I would like to thank Jennie Ward, Ioana Suciu and Laura Nyman for taking on different and additional roles throughout this time. Finally, I would like to thank all in the Bradshaw community for just ensuring that we all remained focused on our learning and were ‘business as usual’ no matter what. That’s what makes Bradshaw great!
With the beginning of a new term comes new recommendations and regulations for schools and any events held as part of our learning journey. I will provide a brief update below on the regulations and more in-depth regulations can be found by clicking on the link below.
The following outlines some changes to the COVID-19 situation in the Northern Territory as it relates to Term 3 in our schools.
- To ensure that we maintain a safe learning environment in our school, we ask that you all continue to practise and promote good hygiene and respect the guidelines that we have set in place including visitors to schools – please see attached or refer to this information
- If your child is unwell that must remain at home and parents/carers should notify the school.
- You are asked to notify the school if your child has been directed by the Northern Territory Government to self-quarantine at home or enter mandatory quarantine at a government facility. The school will provide the student with learning from home materials to ensure that they can continue to learn during this period.
- Students who have been required to quarantine, will need to provide the school with a letter of clearance from the Northern Territory Government, prior to their return to face to face learning. This is about schools minimising the risk of the spread of the virus and giving reassurance to other students, staff and the community, that it is safe for students who have been quarantined to return.
- Please note that all school staff who have been required to undertake quarantine, will also provide the same clearance letter before they return to school.
With the easing of some of the restrictions we will see the re-introduction of some signature Bradshaw events. As we are a large school we will have to be sure that these events can be managed under our COVID Safety Plan, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all within our community. We appreciate the support and cooperation of all community members in maintaining the integrity of these events. Each event will have a separate note with more detailed information and requirements. I have included a brief outline below to cover the initial events for Term 3.
Sport’s Day – Friday 31st July (Week 2). Sport’s Day will be held on Flynn Drive Oval and will be for Preschool to Year 6 students. Students will wear their House Colours on the day and will walk across to the oval with their classes, before assembling in their House tents.
- Students must have a named hat and water bottle.
- There will be cleaning equipment at each activity or station, as well as hand sanitiser stations set up on the oval for adults.
- Families must sit in the designated areas. These will be marked with coloured paint near the outside of the running track. Members from the same household, or who have regular contact with each other can sit together, however each family group must sit at separate markers. Physical distancing is recommended at all times.
- High-fives, fist bumps and celebratory hugging are discouraged.
- Parents need to keep the end of the running track free. For our youngest students who need a little extra encouragement to run, please move to the end if necessary and as soon as the race is over move immediately back to your family area.
- Anyone who is unwell should not attend Sport’s Day. This is for students, staff, family and community members.
- Classes will enter and leave the Flynn Drive Oval in a staggered manner, so that there is not congregation of students in this area.
- There will be signs up to remind everyone about physical distancing and good personal hygiene.
- There will be no BBQ or cake stall this year, so students need to have a packed lunch as normal.
Thank you for helping to make this another amazing Bradshaw event.
School Photos – These will occur throughout Week 3. Students will receive detailed information and order forms this week.
3-Way Conferences – These will be held throughout Week 4 (10th – 14th August). 15 minute timeslots will be offered to families to meet and discuss student progress and to collaboratively plan goals for the rest of the year. Again, there will be COVID Safe practices in place to ensure the safety of everyone.
School Survey - At 3-Way Conferences families will be given a copy of the School Survey that collects valuable information from families about what is working well and what we can do to improve the outcomes of all students at Bradshaw. The more responses we receive the better we are able to respond with effective improvement strategies. You can also complete the Survey through a link that will be provided at the start of Week 4.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
We look forward to another amazing semester working with our students and families at Bradshaw.
Kind Regards,
Penny Weily
Awesome work from 6JC
At the end of Term 2, 6JC welcomed three special guests to our room to complete our History Unit about the Stolen Generation. Our guests discussed their own connections with the Stolen Generation and shared some amazing personal stories with the students. It was an honour to hear these stories and to complete our unit of work with such a special time.

Welcome Back Mrs Morton
This semester we welcome back our lovely Mrs Morton (AKA Miss Royes). We are sure you will join us in welcoming Alex back to Bradshaw and congratulating her on her recent wedding.

Netball End of Term 2
It was awesome to have a Staff vs Students game of Netball at the end of Term 2. Staff seemed to just pull through with the win, but we definetly have some star netballers amongst the students.

School Photos
Bradshaw School photos will occur in Week 3 this term (Tuesday the 4th to 7th of August. Students must have their envelope with them on the day with the correct money inside. Alternatively, parents can order and pay online form the link provided in the letter or by clicking on the link - https://www.theschoolphotographer.com.au/. A class timetable will be sent out in Week 2.

COVID-19 Update
Attached below is the COVID-19 update. Please familiarise yourself with the following information as we have Sports day coming up and need families to be on board with the guidelines in place.

Sports Day!!!
Dear Parents/Carers, 23 july 2020
RE: SPORTS DAY- COVID-19 Guidelines
We are excited to say that we will be having Sports Day in 2020! This event will be held on Friday, 31 July. As with most events this year, Sports Day will come with additional guidelines that will need to be adhered to. We need everyone’s support to keep our students, families and staff members safe. The following will explain the guidelines as it applies to families, and any one that comes to support our students on the day.
Sports Day events will be held on Flynn Drive Oval. Spaces will be marked where families are allowed to sit. We ask that families/friends of the same house hold sit with each other. Please do not move about and sit with other families. Please keep physical distancing in mind when moving about our students. We ask that only our students and staff are near the house tents.
There will be hand sanitizing stations made available around the oval. Please be sure to use it upon arrival and frequently throughout the day. High-fiving, fist bumps, etc. will not be allowed. We ask that you do your best to avoid encouraging our students in this way. Clapping and cheers are still appreciated.
When waiting for your child to race, please do not crowd the running area. Particularly, parents/carers of younger students, you are welcome to cheer your child on from the finish line while they are running, but please do not wait there before, and please move away as soon as your child has finished.
All students are required to have their own water bottle. Students are not allowed to use the water fountains and no additional water will be provided.
Any student who is unwell is asked not to attend. Students will not be advancing to the school and state level this year, so they will not be missing this opportunity, if they are not able to attend.
Please help us to make this a fantastic day for our students by ensuring that these guidelines are followed. As always, your support is appreciated!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Yours Sincerely,
Penny Weily
