Week 7, Term 4, 2021
Update from Leadership
Welcome to Week 7. With only 15 school days left staff are focussed on finalising reports, preparing for end of year celebrations and ensuring as much learning is packed into each day as is possible.
One very special event you are welcome to attend is the retirement afternoon tea, next Thursday from 4pm, to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution that Lesley MacKinnon has made to Bradshaw over many years. Mrs MacKinnon came to Bradshaw in 1996 and has been the backbone of support for students, teachers and families with her kindness and dedication to helping others be the best they can be. Lesley has worked in the Hub supporting students with their learning, feeding them, loving them and making sure every child has a happy and successful day. Lesley has worked with the Student Representative Council to organise the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, discos, fun days, community activities, fundraising and many other things over the years. She has put in the long hours on camps, making sure the students were having fun, were safe and well fed. She has been very popular when sharing her craft and cooking skills with the students. She has helped the teachers with resources and ideas to help students, she’s organised the speech program and run individual and small group learning activities for those students who need a little extra support. Lesley has been a colleague, a friend and a nana and will be dearly missed. We wish Mrs MacKinnon all the very best in her retirement and thank her sincerely for everything she has done to help make Bradshaw the special place that it is. Please RSVP to front office if you are able to join us.
We will also say goodbye to Megan Clarke and Lisa Sherriff at the end of the year. They are both talented, kind and patient teachers who are well respected by their peers and loved by their students. We will miss them. We will also miss Arin Takabayashi who has been a valued support staff member since 2015. She is super organised, has a caring heart and has been a fabulous support for many teachers and students over the years. We thank her for everything she has done for Bradshaw. Other support staff we are farewelling are Cara-lee Butler, Lara Strachan, William Schwalger and Molly Prow. We appreciate their contribution to our school and our students.
This week we say goodbye and thank you to Kah George our front office superstar. Kah knows all our families, school processes and does everything with a big smile and a “no worries”!
A huge congratulations goes out to Jessica Fahey and Pat Anderson who have won Senior Teacher positions at Bradshaw. The appointment of these two talented educators will result in a number of benefits for our staff and our students. Congratulations Jess and Pat!
With staff changes, there will be five new teachers joining the team at Bradshaw. Look out in the weeks ahead for a virtual introduction.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding during the ongoing COVID situation. Please make sure you use the Territory Check In app each time you enter the school. All staff at Bradshaw are vaccinated and Ms Turk is advised regularly on the procedures we need to follow to keep everyone safe. Thanks to families for understanding the need to cancel the swimming lessons. Refunds will be organised.
At our final two assemblies, awards will be given out to students who have excelled in Literacy and LOTE. Families of award winners will be notified so they can attend. At this stage families can attend assembly. You will need to use the Territory Check In app. We’d love to see you at assembly – we have missed you!
All the best for the rest of the year and remember to talk with a staff member if you have any questions or concerns.
Warm regards, Jennie Ward, Assistant Principal

This term we are learning about Africa and South America. The students researched similarities and differences between the two continents including land features, climates, animals, plants, sports, languages and food. The students then shared their findings with their peers through an oral presentation with the use of PowerPoint.

Maths - 2022 School Improvement Plan
The witch’s spell
The witch needs a 24-leg potion to turn her teacher into a frog. She‘s got spiders, lizards and bats. Try to find all the possible spells.
Maths is the focus of school improvement in 2022. The staff met this week to review the plan. Our focus will be on how we plan, teach, assess and report on maths across the whole school from Preschool to Year 6 and its links to all learning areas. Professional learning for staff will focus on maths, our approaches and the resources we use.
In listening to our students, we know that Early Childhood students love learning maths and that our older students report that their favourite aspect is problem solving. When maths is too difficult, is when students say they dislike maths.
Our teachers have said that they would like to be more able to differentiate maths teaching and learning for individual students.
At our School Council Meeting in December, School Council will review and have input into the ASIP also.
Please contact the office if you would like a copy of the 2022 School Improvement Plan.
