Week 1, Term 4, 2021
Update from Leadership
When was the last time Term 4 started with a hail storm, rain and cold weather! Perfect holiday play weather but it was a school day. There were lots of happy faces - was it the delight of mud puddles or seeing friends?!
Students have settled back into learning routines with Progressive Assessment Tests (PAT) in reading and maths for all students in Year 1 – 6. The results are used to inform teaching and learning programs and school reporting. Teachers will look at this maths data at the Whole school PD day next Friday 22nd October. If you are interested to know more about PAT testing, speak to your child’s teacher. This is one of the many assessments that gives your child the opportunity to demonstrate what they know.
Reading with your child and encouraging your child to read every day is so important. At Bradshaw students are taught decoding and comprehension skills through guided reading experiences in class. Families can support reading through regular practice at home. Students are provided with home reading books, library books and Lexile books. Please see your child’s teacher to find out more about the class reading program and the next steps for your child’s progress.
Beyond the classroom there is a lot to look forward to this term – Swimming for T-3 students, Year 3 sleep over, school disco, Alice Beat, Book Fair and Graduation Ceremonies for our Preschool and Year 6 students. To find out more go to the newsletter, Facebook page, notes and the school website. The last day of school is Thursday 16th December.
Students need to be at school every day. If your child is sick please contact the office to let us know. A medical certificate is required for absences longer than 3 days. Our goal for whole school attendance is 90%, we are currently sitting at 86.7% for the year. If your family needs support with attendance, please contact the office or your child’s teacher.
Are you leaving Bradshaw in 2022? If so, please contact Kah and Kaira at the office to let them know. A new classroom (and playground!) are being installed in the weeks ahead. This will bring us up to 21 classes. Planning for students and staff has started and accurate information around the number of students to expect will help us. Likewise, if you know someone moving into the Bradshaw zone and planning to attend Bradshaw Preschool or Primary School, can you ask them to contact the office.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Principal
Shout out to Year 6

A huge shout out to our Year 6 Students. They led the way with their energy and quick organisational skills for our first week of Whole School Fitness. They were able to problem solve and manage changes in a responsible manner using their Bradshaw Learner Qualities.
Awesome effort!
1G & 1H
We have had a great start to Term 4 in 1G and 1H. We have loved listening to everyone’s exciting events from their holidays. This term students will be learning about Location in Maths. We started the topic with a map activity. Students had to hide an animal and create a map for someone else to use to find the animal. We had such great fun outside searching for the lost animals.

Staff Development Day
Reminder to Families, please mark in your calendar. A Staff Development Day will be taking place next week on Friday 22nd October.
There will be no school for students on this day.
YMCA will be providing a program, please see flyer attached and book in early to secure a place if required.

Positive Partnerships Workshop
Please see attached flyer for the upcoming Positive Partnerships workshop for Parents and Carers. It is a 2 day workshop for parents and carers of individuals on the spectrum. Families and Carers are welcome to join other local families to learn more about autism and ways to strengthen the home-school partnership.
World Teachers Day
World Teacher's Day will be celebrated across Australia on Friday 29th October. It's a chance to celebrate teaching and for communities to thank educators. Bradshaw will be celebrating by having a morning tea. If families would like to contribute to our morning tea to help us celebrate our wonderful educators please feel free to bring along some goodies to the front office before 10am on the 29th Oct.

Dolly's Dream 'Parenting in the Digital World'
Last Term Bradshaw hosted Dolly's Dream Parenting in the Digital World workshop. The information, resources and clarity presented about how we work with young people in the digital age was enlightening and powerful. We are hoping that Bradshaw can offer another session in Term 4.
Code of Conduct
We are currently updating our Code of Conduct for visitors to the school (parents, volunteers etc) and we are inviting families to provide their feedback. If you would like to view our Code of Conduct and provide any feedback, hardcopies are available at the Front Office. Please write your suggestions on the hardcopy and return to the office by Friday 29th October.
Reminders/Updates
- School Crossings: Parents are asked to use the school crossing with their children. While it's tempting to cross the road where you have parked it is the perfect opportunity to teach road safety.
- Planning for 2022: If you know your child will not be returning to Bradshaw Primary School next year please let our office staff know so that we can start planning for 2022!
- School photos: The school photos are estimated to arrive around week 8 of this term.
Attendance
Families please note the below departmental policies regarding Attendance. With your support we can reach our goal of 90% or higher before the end of the year.
- School is mandatory for every school aged child and every child enrolled in a preschool.
- Please notify the front office when your child will not be at school.
- Students who have more than three days off unwell MUST obtain a medical certificate. Students who do not provide a medical certificate will be recorded as unacceptable absence following the third day.
- Families taking holidays during the school term must advise the school. It is at the Principals discretion as to if the time away from school is valid – therefore recorded as an acceptable absence. This will depend on a number of things such as recent attendance and academic level. Anything more than two weeks will be marked as unacceptable absence.
