Week 7, Term 3, 2021
Update from Leadership
Werte Bradshaw families,
We are so proud of our Bradshaw students and the gains they have made with their academic growth over the last year. NAPLAN results have been partially distributed to schools, and our teachers are already looking at some of the available data to reflect on teaching and learning and adjust practice in core learning areas. NAPLAN results for Year 3 and 5 students will be sent home with students over the next few weeks.
While NAPLAN provides us with information on students’ learning in the areas of Maths, Reading, Writing and Spelling, Bradshaw has a really big focus on Arts and at this time of year, a very special focus on The Performing Arts with our concert only weeks away.
The Performing Arts play a hugely significant role in helping children to develop their creative skills. These skills see our students developing a creative mind and fostering personalities and imagination as they make their journey through school, to become happy and well-rounded children.
The Performing Arts are all about self-expression, exploring different ways of doing things and embracing individuality. It’s not black and white, or about having the right or wrong answer. This allows children to develop self-confidence and belief in themselves.
The benefits of a curriculum focusing on The Performing Arts goes further as it promotes a ‘togetherness’. Stage productions—songs, theatre, reading, are all opportunities for a community to come together and share common stories, cultures and values. Moreover, Performing Arts allow our students to practice team work and collaboration. Students work in groups and negotiate complex situations. They creatively learn with and from each other and sharpen their communication skills.
Term 3 has provided and will continue to provide many opportunities for The Performing Arts. On our recent highly successful school camps for Year 4s and 5s, one of the most celebrated activities, was the Bradshaw Talent Show. Students shone as they organised a ‘camp talent show’. Confidently, students stood in front of their peers and performed skits, danced, sang, told jokes and even did gymnastics. The collaboration and encouragement was astounding, and seeing students’ self confidence rise as their peers cheered them was heart-warming and reflected on our positive school community.
Book Week
Last week we celebrated Book Week. Our organising team lead by our incredible Librarian, Ms Leisa, organised a number of exciting events including a book picnic and a dress up parade. There is no doubt that one of the highlights was the Bradshaw Can Read Extravaganza in the library! Students chose favourite passages in books and read aloud (with expression and tone) to their peers and a panel of experts! More than 40 students participated in this opportunity to practice reading on stage!
School Concert
Term 3 will end with our school concert! While last year we were unable to go ahead with a concert due to Covid restrictions, this year our school is in full concert mode and all classes are practicing relentlessly to put together a clever and entertaining show. Watch this space for all details on school concert in week 10 to be published in the next week or so.
Happy Father’s Day!
To all the significant males in our community, we would like to wish you all a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday! May your loved ones spoil you and bring you some happiness. The School will have a special Father’s Day stall run by our Student Representative Council. Students can bring between $2-6 to purchase a special gift on Friday.

Art
This term Students have been learning the art of Printmaking! Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring an image from a printing plate either made of Styrofoam, cardboard or lino onto paper. Students from Transition through to Year 6 have loved exploring this new art medium.

P.E Fun
This week in P.E, students were greeted by Miss Emily from Netball NT. She ran some engaging activities with a focus on developing netball skills. The students were actively participating in the activities and they worked in pairs, teams and as individuals. I would encourage parents to ask their children how do demonstrate a ‘pivot’, this will let the students show off their new skills.
