Update From Leadership
What an amazing day it was when we officially opened the Yeperenye concourse. Special guests, families and students gathered out the front for the speeches, the ribbon was formally cut and everyone in attendance walked down our beautiful new concourse. We did receive a lot of media attention and if you missed it you can find it here: https://fb.watch/7dOMh513J7/ and here: https://youtu.be/8uJxOnqg18Y and here: https://www.caama.com.au/2021/08/03/yeperenye-stories-teaching-mparntwes-youth-about-their-country/#
On the Thursday before the grand opening we had all the students line up along the concourse and then MK Turner walked down the concourse while the students sang a John Williamson and Warren H Williams song, ‘1000 Feet’. It was a beautiful experience for everyone and there were tears from some. MK has been associated with Bradshaw for many years and is always very supportive of us in our quest to bring Arrernte language and culture to life at Bradshaw. We will receive a video of this event at some stage so if you are keen to see it let the front office ladies know.
The Akaltye team is very thankful for the support we received during our special NAIDOC/Yeperenye Concourse Week. All staff contributed to the success of the events which shows, once again, why Bradshaw is the best!
The Akaltye Team is looking for community members to join the team. We meet 2 or 3 times a term on a Wednesday from 3.15pm to 4.15pm. If you are interested in joining the team and helping to improve Arrernte language and culture across the school please let Shannan know.

Happy Farmer Excursion
3FL, 3R and 3/4M were treated to a highly informative excursion to the Happy Farm. Students got to experience a range of different tools used for farming. They planted seeds and tasted fresh produce that was sustainably grown and chemical-free on the farm. Students listened to how the chooks and pigs eat the food scraps from businesses in our community. They fed the cheeky goats and cooed at the 2 week old baby goat.

Bradshaw Book Week 23rd to 27th August
We are looking forward to an exciting week of activities during our annual Book Week. We will kick start the week with a “Book Picnic” on Monday on the lawns at the front of the school, where all teachers and students will come together to read books under the shade of our beautiful gum trees.
Wednesday will be filled with fun as students get to dress up as their favourite book character. Prizes will be awarded across the school for best costumes.
Don’t forget to send a book to school that your child no longer needs or reads so that they can swap it for another pre-loved book at our “Book Swap” on Friday. All students will have the opportunity to take home a book.
Other activities across the school will include a colouring-in competition, reading recitals in the Library plus more activities in the classrooms as we celebrate the amazing work and talents of Australian authors and illustrators for the Children’s Book Council of Australia annual book awards.
