Week 7, Term 2, 2021
Update from Leadership
To say this has been a busy fortnight would be an understatement! As always, Bradshaw has been involved in many things happening across town at the moment! Last week, the year 6 students went to Ross River for a 2 night camp. The weather was perfect and student’s behaviour was at a high standard. We enjoyed many activities such as a 6km walk, cubby building, slime making, so many hot milos, delicious food that was coming out of our ears and most importantly, great company! Thank you so very much to all the parents and staff that came on camp to ensure we had a wonderful time.
This week we have been full steam ahead with the 2021 Centralian Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod finishes up today and Mrs Fahey deserves a gold medal and a strong, large coffee for all her amazing work and countless hours preparing students for their acts. Bradshaw students and classes have taken home many first place and highly commended certificates. How terrific it is to see so many students involved. The SRC will be holding a special “congratulations” pancake breakfast on Thursday the 10th at 9am to celebrate all eisteddfod competitors and their achievements.
Today we had a team of 55 students from years 3-6 representing Bradshaw at the primary interschool athletics carnival at Head st oval. We congratulate all our students who attended the sports day on the awesome efforts they all have put in today.
Next week is yet another very busy week with our parent/teacher interviews happening. Please use our online booking system to make a time to see your child’s teacher. There was a note sent home yesterday outlining specific times for teachers and how to book a time. We would love as many families as possible to come in and speak with their child’s teacher and hear about all the amazing things happening in the classroom.
Also on Thursday the 10th at 2pm, we will have Luke Hayes- local champion, Finke rider coming in to school to speak with the years 3-6 and to show them his flash bike ahead of the 2021 Finke Desert Race.
Finke weekend is fast approaching, don’t forget to stay safe in you’re heading down the track and remember Monday the 14th there is no school.
Enjoy the weekend,
Alex Morton

Science at Bradshaw
In Science this term, the Year 1 and Year 2 students have been investigating sound and light. These students have experimented with mirrors to reflect a source of light around their classroom. The Year 1 and 2 students also experimented with tuning forks, used paper cups and string to make toy telephones to demonstrate sound vibrations.
The Year 3 and 4 students have undertaken scientific experiments to determine the thermal characteristics of different materials. Students also examined if different colours contributed towards whether heat was reflected or absorbed.
In Years 5 and 6, the students have been investigating the many varied energy sources available. Students have started to construct small scale wind turbines from everyday items. Students have also began to compare the advantages and disadvantages of different forms of energy.

Whats been happening in 1G and 1H
In 1G and 1H we start our mornings off with some quick literacy work to switch our brains on for the day. We sing the alphabet, say our sound, blend some words, and read our M100W.
We have been learning about money and data in Maths. We survey our classmates and create graphs of our data. We learnt about Australian money, created our own wallets with money in them, and went to our classroom shops to spend our money.
We love playing games during morning fitness on a Wednesday. Our year 6 helpers always have such fun ideas for us to play.

Digital Technologies in 1P
In 1 Phillips during Digital Technologies we have been learning about hardware and software. As part of our learning we have looked into past devices that have been used over the different eras. 1 Phillips then planned, designed and created their own devices including laptops, a Tamagotchi, radios and 3D games and characters using cardboard boxes, plastic containers, straws, CD’s, string, glue, sticky tape, material and clay. Students loved the opportunity to be creative and engage in hands on learning.

Learning in 5U
in 5 Usher we have been learning about data and models. We also had some of our students do a last minute practise for the Eisteddfod performances this week as well as having Aunty Shannan visiting us in class.
