Week 5, Term 2, 2021
Update from Leadership
Can you believe it is Week 6 already? The next 5 weeks will fly by and soon we will all be enjoying our mid-year break.
NAPLAN concluded last Friday and all our Year 3 and Year 5 students gave their best during this testing period. Individual student results will come out in Term 3.
This week our Year 6 students are enjoying a camp at Ross River. An excited group of 57 students left this morning and will return on Wednesday at 2pm. We are sure there will be lots of walking, fun activities and games, which will be thoroughly enjoyed by all. Just being together in a different environment is exciting for our students and I’m sure they will all sleep well on Wednesday night!
Some of our talented students are rehearsing hard for their Eisteddfod performance coming up in Week 7 and 8. Notes will be sent home to those students involved along with an open invitation to families to go along and watch.
Our 3 Way Learning Conferences will be held in Week 8 and notes will come home soon. Keep an eye out. The conferences are a great opportunity to see your child’s work and talk together with the teacher.
A few reminders to make sure your child is in the best position to learn:
- Please do not send children to school before 8am as they are unsupervised.
- Students need a broad brimmed hat to play outside. They are available at the front office for $10.
- Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats breakfast so they are at their best to learn.
- Pack a piece of fruit and a healthy recess and lunch every day.
- Bradshaw is not funded to provide food for students. Frontier Services can send food if you pay for it – forms are at the front office. If your child needs an emergency lunch, please contact the front office or Shannan.

Education Minister Visits Bradshaw
Education Minister Lauren Moss visited Bradshaw last Tuesday. She appreciated seeing the school, hearing about our programs and our plans for the future. Our student leaders shared with her a little about themselves, their school highlights and aspirations.
Minister Moss loved learning about our school and the amazing people who make it great.

Frontier Lunches
We are noticing an increase in the number of students coming to the office who either have no food or not enough food for the day. Please ensure your child has a substantial, nutritious recess and lunch packed to last them the day. All classes across the school take part in “Crunch and Sip” at 9.30am. This is a small FRUIT snack and drink of water to keep students going until after recess play. It is really important that every child brings a healthy option for Crunch and Sip, every day! If your child presents to the front office, a phone call home will be made to ask families to bring in extra food.
Do you know about the wonderful service provided by ARRCS? For just $17.34 per week per child (that’s less than $3.50 per day), your child will be provided with a nutritious snack for recess and a meal for lunch, delivered to the school, daily. All it takes is the completion of one, simple, form and it can all be taken care of for you. The payments can be made directly via Centrelink, through Centrepay or Income Management.
Please contact the office on 8955 2100 for more information.

Learning in Transition Stubbings
In Transition Stubbings we have been learning about capacity and how to compare the capacities of different containers. We have been using hands on materials such as sand, water, rice, pom poms, cotton balls and cubes to help us explore this new concept.

Maths in Transition Barnes
In Maths, we have begun learning about the concept of capacity. We discussed that capacity means how much, or how many things, can fit inside. Children used containers to explore which held more or less. We used 1:1 counting to work out how many fit in each container.

Strategising Summaries in 3/4MM
3/4 Mapstone & Marzohl are learning the comprehension strategy of summarising. Part of summarising is learning how to identify key words. We read the Highway Rat and brainstormed the key words about the main character, the Highway Rat.
