Week 1, Term 2, 2021
Update from Leadership
Dear Bradshaw Families
On Monday we welcomed back 548 happy students and we now have 20 classes! Bradshaw has grown this year – it’s the place to learn. The good news is that class sizes now average 24 students which means teachers and support staff can provide students with quality teaching and learning with a greater focus on individual achievement.
Attendance - It is important that every student is at school every day. Our goal is 90% attendance. In Term 1 we reached 89% but we can do it this term with every student attending school. If your child has worries at school, speak with your child’s teacher or one of the leadership team. Your child’s social, personal and academic learning is important to everyone at Bradshaw. If your child is sick, please keep them at home and phone the office to tell us.
New staff - Please join me in welcoming (or welcoming back) the following teachers:
- Melanie Stubbings – Transition
- Colleen Marzohl – Year 3/4M&M
- Pip Mapstone – 3/4M&M – joining us on 10 May
- Lucy Manchester – Early Childhood Specialist Teacher
We are very excited to announce that Kaira Palupe, has won a Front Office position and will continue to welcome and care for all in her smiley, friendly ways. We are still looking for a second person to work alongside Kaira in the office. Please contact Michele for more info.
There are some new Classroom Support Staff joining the team also.
Term 2 - will be a busy one! Keep an eye out for information via notes, newsletters and our Facebook page. Coming up we have:
- Sports Day
- NAPLAN
- Year 6 School Camp
- Three Way Conferences
- School Reports
- Reconciliation Day
- Mother’s Day stall
- Eisteddfod
This Friday we have our ANZAC Day commemoration which concludes learning on ANZAC Day and a time when each class will lay a wreath. Poppies are available at the front office for a donation with all funds raised going to Legacy.
Uniform - With the cooler days upon us, ensure that your child is wearing either a Bradshaw School hoodie or jacket or an item that is plain navy blue. Jumpers, jackets and hoodies of an alternative colour or design are discouraged. Bradshaw hoodies and jackets are available to purchase from the office. Please write your child’s name on clothing items and HATS! The lost property basket is beginning to fill with items discarded around the school. If it has a name, it can be returned to its owner.
School Council – Congratulations to Ben Inglis who was elected School Council Chairperson. Ben has had a long association with Council in various roles but this is his first time as Chair – great news for our school community! The fundraising and finance subcommittees have been formed. Soon there will be opportunities to assist with fundraising activities. Our next School Council Meeting is Tuesday 27 April.

News from the Attendance Team
The attendance team are ramping it up to get every student to school every day. You might receive a letter showing your child’s attendance, along with other strategies we have implemented to support students and families in order to increase attendance.
Some things to keep in mind –
- School is mandatory for every school aged child and every child enrolled in a preschool.
- Please notify the front office when your child will not be at school.
- Students who have more than three days off unwell MUST obtain a medical certificate. Students who do not provide a medical certificate will be recorded as unacceptable absence following the third day.
- Families taking holidays during the school term must advise the school. It is at the Principals discretion as to if the time away from school is valid – therefore recorded as an acceptable absence. This will depend on a number of things such as recent attendance and academic level. Anything more than two weeks will be marked as unacceptable absence.
Please note these are departmental policy.
With your support we can reach our goal of 90% or higher before the end of the term.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.

It’s just 8.35am and our littlest learners in Transition Stubbings and Barnes are already hard at work – through their Discovery Learning play. Check out these writers, designers, artists and builders focus on their learning.

Bradshaw Gardeners
The veggie garden is coming along very well this year at Bradshaw. Currently we have plenty of Eggplants and Silverbeet ripe for picking by the students. Over Term 1 students planted, brocolli, snow peas, sweet corn, lettuce, carrots, watermelon, cherry tomatoes and lots of herbs both out the front of the school and near the Transition classes.
Students have been eager to contribute to the garden and have really enjoyed pulling weeds and getting their hands into the compost. Term 2 and moving into winter, we should have some hearty winter veggies ready to go!
