Term 3, Week 6 2025
Letter from the Principal
Werte Bradshaw Primary School Families,
It has been another very productive few weeks at school, with plenty happening across classrooms and beyond.
NAPLAN Growth
Every year, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 take part in NAPLAN testing. This allows us to measure student growth over time, particularly from Year 3 to Year 5. I am thrilled to share that our Year 5 students achieved greater growth than both the NT and Australian averages in all areas except numeracy.
This is an outstanding result and a testament to the dedication of our teachers and support staff, who are always striving to ensure that every student is learning and thriving.
Recognition of Our Teachers
It is wonderful to see our school and teachers gaining recognition nationally. In a recent webinar/podcast, Episode 5: Start the Way You Mean to Finish with Dr Nathaniel Swain and Rebecca Birch, three of our very own teachers were featured demonstrating classroom routines with students. This is a fantastic acknowledgment of their work and the quality of teaching at our school. Episode 5: Start the Way You Mean to Finish
Camps
The past fortnight has also been busy with our Year 5 and Year 6 camps. A huge thank you to the staff who put in so much additional time and effort to provide these rich experiences for our students. Camps are a highlight of the year and would not be possible without their commitment.
Looking Ahead
We are starting to plan ahead for 2026. If you have children due to start preschool in 2026 and have not yet enrolled, please get in touch with our preschool team to secure a place.
Reminders
Hats: Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day.
Shoes: For safety and comfort, students should wear appropriate school shoes (no slides, crocs, thongs, or heels).
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.
Warm regards,
Tim O'Sullivan

Busy and Active at Bradshaw!
It’s been a lively term across the courts, fields and fairways! From Transition - Year 4s testing out new netball programs, Year 5s learning Lacrosse and Kickball (for interschool program participation) to Year 6s creating mini golf challenges for the fete, our students are learning, moving, and showing great teamwork in various ways.
Our Year 3s are currently trialling and critiquing the new Netball Australia / Sporting Schools program to see how fun, skill-building and inclusive the programme really is!
And our Year 6 students have been getting into the swing of things with mini golf! They’ve been refining their movement skills and testing out strategies to improve their shots. To finish the unit, students are designing and creating their own mini-golf holes, which will be set up for 4P and the community to enjoy at the Bradshaw Fete. Of course, fair play, teamwork and inclusion are at the heart of it all!

5PM - Wonderful Start!
5PM have made a wonderful start to the term! Everyone has settled quickly back into school routines, and it has been fantastic to see such enthusiasm for learning across all subjects. Over the past few weeks, we have been revising important skills as well as diving into some exciting new topics.
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been reading We Are Wolves by Katrina Nannestad. This powerful story has helped us learn about what life was like for children during World War II. The children have been practising how to use strong sentence structures, build paragraphs, and include vivid details to make their writing engaging and meaningful.
Maths
In Maths, we have been working hard on fractions, multiplication, and area. The children have been learning how to compare and simplify fractions, as well as how to apply multiplication strategies to solve problems. We have also explored area and how it can be calculated in different shapes.
Science
In Science, we enjoyed a very exciting visit to the North Side Community Gardens. The children were able to look at soil samples under a microscope, which helped us see the tiny details that we can’t usually observe. We also planted our own plants, learning first-hand what plants need to grow and thrive. This hands-on experience gave us a deeper understanding of the natural world and helped us connect our classroom learning to real life.
Looking Ahead
As the term continues, we will keep building on these topics. We are especially looking forward to camp, which promises to be an exciting highlight of the term! The children should be very proud of the effort they have put into their learning so far – it has been a wonderful start to the term in 5PM!

Art with Ms Pip - Shading and Tinting
Our students have been busy learning all about the Value of Colour! 🎨 They discovered that shading means making a colour darker and tinting means making a colour lighter. To show off their skills, Transition - Year 2 created delicious-looking ice cream cone artworks with colours blended from dark to light 🍦.
The Year 3–6 students went further by drawing bright budgerigars and painting feathers, arranging them from darkest to lightest—lots of creativity and colour in action! 🌈✨

1W - A busy week of learning!
This term, our young writers have been busy creating their very own narratives, which they proudly shared with their buddy class. It was wonderful to see their confidence and creativity shine through! This week, we are stretching our persuasive writing skills by drafting letters to Bunnings, asking for help to make our school garden look smart, colourful, and inviting. Fingers crossed for their reply.
In Maths, we are consolidating our number bonds to 10 through both addition and subtraction, building strong foundations for future learning. Meanwhile, in Science, we have loved keeping a close eye on the weather. Our daily class “Weather Reporter” has been a highlight, helping us track patterns and share updates with the class.
It has been a busy, exciting week of learning!
