Term 2, Week 4 2025
Message from the Principal
Werte Bradshaw Primary School Families,
We’ve had a vibrant and active couple of weeks here at school!
Our Year 1–3 students have just completed their swimming program, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and development in the pool. A big thank you to all the staff who helped make the program run smoothly and to families for ensuring students were well-prepared each day.
Next Friday 16th of May is our Sports Day, and we are all looking forward to a fun-filled event. It’s a great opportunity for families to come along, participate, and support the students. The day promises to be one of celebration, community, and teamwork!
Thank you also to everyone who contributed to our Mother’s Day Stall. We hope the gifts chosen by your children bring a smile to your face and help celebrate the important role you play in their lives.
Looking ahead, Transition students will begin their swimming program next week. Please remember to pack all necessary swimming gear for your child so they are ready for their sessions.
Wishing you a restful weekend, and we look forward to seeing you next week.
1W - Learning, Connection & Fun!
Year 1 have had a fantastic start to the week, thoroughly enjoying their swimming lessons! Despite the tiredness that can come with busy days in the pool, the students have continued to work hard in class—especially in maths, where they’ve been mastering number bonds to 10 and using them to tackle bigger numbers.
In literacy, we’ve been diving into the beautiful book Lizzie Nonsense, which is helping us explore what life was like in the past. We’ve also loved spending time with our Year 5 buddy class, who have supported us during our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons.
It’s been a wonderful start to Term Two full of learning, connection, and fun! We’d like to give a big shout out to Rion, who joined us this term. He has settled into our class wonderfully and is quickly becoming a valued member of the 1W crew. We’re so happy to have him with us!

2T - Fun with Extracurricular Activities
We’ve had a fabulous start to the new term! Over the past 4 weeks we have had a great time learning and taking part in extracurricular activities.
In literacy our focus has been on using subordinating conjunctions to expand our sentences. The children have been using the engaging story of Meet the Flying Doctors as a starting point to learn about the Royal Flying Doctor Service and how John Flynn created the organisation.
In numeracy we’ve been learning about fractions as a half, quarter and an eighth, measuring objects in an informal way and methods that can be used for subtraction. The children have enjoyed hands on activities that consolidate their learning.
The children have really enjoyed their swimming lessons over the past two weeks. They have learnt different ways to be safe in the water!

3Z - Learning, Celebrating and Growing
Time certainly flies — we can hardly believe we’re almost halfway through Term 2! This term began with a string of public holidays and quickly filled with exciting events and learning opportunities. We’ve already enjoyed highlights such as the 800m race, swimming lessons, and the much-loved Mother’s Day stall. There’s still more fun to come, with our Sports Day just around the corner — a favourite event for many!
In Literacy, we started the term by diving into the world of poetry. Students explored poetic devices and wrote their very own poems. A proud moment for all was when some students shared their work during our special ANZAC assembly, inspired by our class reading about Simpson and his donkey. It was a beautiful way to honour the spirit of ANZAC while showcasing their creativity.
As part of our HASS unit on significant events, symbols and emblems that shape Australia’s identity and diversity, students have been engaging with the beautiful illustrated book Celebrate With Us, which introduces a wide range of cultural and religious celebrations from around the world. They have particularly enjoyed sharing their own experiences, asking questions, and making connections between different celebrations—bringing a strong sense of curiosity, inclusion and excitement to their learning.
In Mathematics, we kicked off the term with a focus on measurement. Students have been connecting maths with real-life experiences by participating in hands-on activities — measuring, weighing, and comparing everyday objects. This has helped them see how maths is not just about numbers on a page but something we use in our daily lives in practical and meaningful ways.
We’re looking forward to the rest of Term 2, full of more discovery, growth and celebration. Thank you for your ongoing support — it’s been a joy to see the students thrive.

6D - Gregarious Year 6 Devi Class
Welcome to Year 6 Devi—a class bursting with energy, laughter, and friendship! We’re known for being gregarious, which means we love spending time together, working as a team, and lifting each other up.
Our classroom is full of chatter, ideas, and big smiles. Whether we’re tackling a tough maths problem, diving into creative writing, or just sharing a joke, we do it together—with heart and enthusiasm.
We’ve just come back from an unforgettable 3-day camp at Ross River Resort, and it brought us even closer. From campfire stories to group challenges and outdoor adventures, we learned so much about teamwork, courage, and how much fun it is to be part of such a supportive and lively group.
Year 6 Devi isn’t just a class—it’s a family. And being gregarious makes every moment, whether in the classroom or out in the bush, one to remember.
